Think of a teacher you know - or who taught you - in whose classroom events always seemed carefully planned. Was this teacher effective? Describe a teacher you had or know who always considers her very best students when making decisions regarding teaching and learning.
I truly can't think of any teachers who had extra things planned for the very best students, as typically once we were done we would either be helping out other students or doing some other kind of school work. Otherwise we would just sit and talk with the other students for a couple minutes while the teacher gave time for everyone who was on task to complete the assignment and ask questions. I personally am glad my teachers were like this because I would not have enjoyed having extra work to do once I finished as it would almost feel like a punishment for understanding. If I had a lot of schoolwork that day I would be able to use that time to study for tests, check over assignments, and make sure that I had all my due dates written in my planner and my work organized. If I didn't have too much work or if I needed a mental break, I could use that time to talk to my friends, which is important both for stress relief, maintaining relationships, and developing social skills. Having those intervals during the day so I wasn't just constantly working also helped keep me from burning out and getting senioritis early, because it was essentially a breather and if the class was really too easy I would have moved into a different level that better addressed my skills.
ReplyDeleteThere are two different types of teachers, one very strict and one relaxed, this is a big difference in teaching students. For example, the schools that are very strict, the students are not very energetic and easily get bored and do not show interest in learning, unlike those that the teacher lets them choose with whom to work on a project with the classmates with whom they feel comfortable and It gives them the freedom to express themselves and these students show more positive energy and learn and their behavior is more positive.
ReplyDeleteThere are several different types of teachers. I have had some that were balanced between super strict and relaxed. These truly were the best teachers.
DeleteThe position of the principals is not easy, they have to be in everything in the administration, following the policies, regulations and much more especially how to address teachers who are not effective with their teaching, this is the most difficult part, sometimes they have to take extreme decisions that is why many times the principals ask discreet questions to the students who are serious and based on the investigations the decision is made to keep the teachers in their jobs.

ReplyDeleteThere's only one teacher that I can recall that was intentional. Mr. Keener. He was very subtle about it though. Mr. Keener taught band and choir; when it came to traveling places he would ask the best students where they'd like to travel. We got to sing at a mall during Christmas time, we sang at a plant Nursery for the business owner, and a restaurant. Instead of being in a traditional setting of a choir, Mr. Keener mixed the sections. We sounded amazing and it did force each of us to know our parts. This was all based off of the best students.
